They completely altered his look and voice. Mercer was a more fanatical occultist while Kyne was a desperate schizo scientist wanting to do the right thing. I liked Kyne and Mercer’s portrayal in the original more as well. However I don’t think Hammond needed to be lowered to bring Kendra up. I think they did this to improve Kendra’s character who was improved since her original personality made her obviously someone who was going to betray you. In the remake, I feel he was missing for the majority of the game only to abruptly reappear in the Valor. He was proactive and worked alongside Isaac. Hammond was my favorite character in the original since he was an ideal leader who took charge and was calm about n the face of danger as a leader should be. Im biased because I really didn’t like Motive’s story telling in Battlefront 2 and Squadrons which is their only other works as far as Im aware. For this reason and many others I liked the original more for having a more mysterious tone to it. In the remake, it’s almost brought up immediately if I remember correctly or just way too early imo. It was introduced way later and when you first see it in the cargo hold, it’s almost a Lovecraftian experience. The marker was more mysterious in the original. One less voice makes the ship more eerie. A silent protagonist makes you feel more isolated and alone since you can’t rely on him to react along with you. It’s this reason I didn’t find Dead Space 2 as scary. In the remake, it’s way too “smooth” and does it effortlessly. In the original, it was more frantic and desperate with its forceful entry as the puke pours out of its mouth. An example of this is the elevator scene with the slasher trying to break in. Motion capture doesn’t work for Necromorphs.
Brute and Hivemind roars were butchered along with Isaac’s screams (yes I know they were stock sounds, still better than the remake imo).Īnimations were better. Necromorphs sound more like monstrous reincarnated corpses of dead shipmen instead of drunks who forgot there was pizza in the oven or your average citizen of Portland.
